This looked way too funny to be true :-(

Popular Mechanics run a short article on this (February 2005, page 20) and apparently it is a hoax. The image was created for an oline image manipulation contest by Troels Eklund Andersen. He used the photos of a mock submarine control room, a 1950's TV, a 1970's teletype and a hardware store owner from Ohio.
